Irene Annink – voice and guitar
During her childhood in Curaçao, Irene absorbed Caribbean rhythms, merengue and mariachi music. She started her love affair with Mexico as a young adult, just when she had abandoned classical instrumental music to embark on her vocal journey. She eventually spent 6 years of her life in Mexico and found in Latin American music a very hospitable style to express herself. Since then she has also developed her composing skills, performing solo as a singer-songwriter, for instance touring with Racoon and opening for rock band De Dijk. Furthermore she participated in several Dutch vocal groups such as Dekoor and Be Sharp!, fronted the Mexican progressive rock band Moro and delved into jazz and bossa nova repertoire with guitarist Julio García. All these different styles have been a way to open up her vocal range, and her passion. Now she is the heart of Cuerda Vocal.
Rick Piepers – piano and guitar
Rick has been a valued band leader, arranger and side man for many years in several musical and theatrical projects. He feels at home in diverse styles such as gospel, rock, jazz and cabaret. Black Gospel choires Deliverance and Soul Sound Formations, the Pleegtheater and other artists and bands profit from his steady accompaniment and arrangements. For many years now he has been playing with singer Nadja Filtzer, with whom he brings to the stage the well received music theatre piece “My wandering heart”. In Cuerda Vocal Rick typically is the one who wilfully tears apart most of the songs to build them up again according to his own insights.
Leo Verbree – double bass
As a child of the sixties, Leo grows up with the music of Astrud Gilberto and Herb Alpert. In his father’s record collection he finds mostly old style jazz. When during high school Leo discovers the music of Django Reinhardt and Billie Holiday, the chips are down. Therefore in 2008 he divides his musical life between his bands Swing Bien Sûr (hotclub jazz in the style of Django) and the Latin American melancholy of Cuerda Vocal. Leo brings to Cuerda Vocal the steadfast base over which Irene and Rick can soar.
Anders Bouwer – percussion
The newest addition to Cuerda Vocal! As a youngster Anders was already ticking away with his coloring pencils on the table. At the age of 16 he finally begot a real drumkit, but later he felt the need for more colors on his sound palette. In Cuerda Vocal he plays all kinds of percussion instruments, some of which personally imported from Latin America. He also plays bass guitar in among others the Rudy Kronfuss Experience and jazz quintet Dat Dere. In Cuerda Vocal Anders provides the spunk needed in this often romantic and fleeting music.
Irene Annink – zang en gitaar
Na jarenlang in Mexico te hebben opgetreden, kwam Irene terug naar Nederland met een schat aan repertoire en ervaring. Door zich te verdiepen in talrijke muziekstijlen, ontwikkelde ze haar klank, bereik en artisticiteit. Ze zong met gitarist Julio García in een jazz- en bossa nova-formatie, frontte de rockband Moro en speelde en zong in het duo Luz Viajera met Latijns-Amerikaanse en Engelstalige muziek. In Nederland trad ze op met vocal groups Dekoor en Be Sharp! en solo met haar eigen composities, onder meer op tournee met Racoon en als voorprogramma van De Dijk in het Utrechtse Tivoli. Ook deed ze studiowerk in diverse projecten, in samenwerking met andere singer-songwriters, radiospots en maakte ze computerarrangementen van haar nummers. Nu is ze de bezieling van het Latijns-Amerikaanse project Cuerda Vocal.
Rick Piepers – piano en gitaar
Rick is al jaren een erg gewaardeerd begeleider, bandleider en arrangeur bij diverse muzikale en theatrale projecten. Hij voelt zich als een vis in het water in diverse stijlen als gospel, rock, jazz en kleinkunst. Black Gospelkoren Deliverance en Soul Sound Formations, het Pleegtheater en verschillende andere artiesten en bands doen hun voordeel met zijn strakke begeleiding en arrangementen. Vele jaren speelt hij reeds samen met zangeres Nadja Filtzer, met wie hij momenteel o.a. het zeer goed ontvangen muziektheaterprogramma “Mijn zwervend hart” opvoert. In Cuerda Vocal is Rick degene die heel eigenwijs de meeste nummers afbreekt en naar eigen inzicht weer opbouwt.
Als kind van de jaren ‘60 groeit Leo op met de muziek van Astrud Gilberto en Herb Alpert. In de platenkast van zijn vader staat voornamelijk oude stijl jazz. Als Leo dan in zijn de middelbare schooltijd de muziek van Django Reinhardt en Billie Holiday ontdekt, zijn de bakens uitgezet. Anno 2008 verdeelt hij zijn muzikale leven dan ook tussen zijn bands Swing Bien Sûr (hotclub jazz in de stijl van Django, www.swingbiensur.nl) en de Latijns-Amerikaanse melancholie van Cuerda Vocal. Leo geeft binnen Cuerda Vocal de stevige basis waar Rick en Irene overheen kunnen wervelen.
Anders Bouwer – percussie
De nieuwste aanwinst van Cuerda Vocal! Op jonge leeftijd tikte Anders al met zijn kleurpotloden op tafel. Toen hij 16 was kreeg hij eindelijk een echt drumstel, maar later kreeg hij toch behoefte aan meer kleuren op zijn klankenpalet. In Cuerda Vocal speelt hij daarom allerhande percussie-instrumenten, waarvan sommige eigenhandig geïmporteerd uit Latijns-Amerika. Daarnaast speelt hij ook basgitaar in o.a. in de Rudy Kronfuss Experience en jazz quintet Dat Dere.
